If someone you love games so much that school, work, relationships, or basic responsibilities are slipping, it may be more than a hobby. It could be a gaming addiction.
Gaming addiction, also called Internet Gaming Disorder (IGD) or Gaming Disorder, is a behavioural condition marked by a loss of control over gaming despite the damage it does. Gaming can be a healthy way to unwind. The problem starts when a person can't stop even as their health, grades, job, or relationships take the hit.
What families notice first is usually a change in behavior. Someone pulls away from friends and family, drops hobbies they used to love, stops taking care of themselves, or stays up all night playing. They get irritable or anxious when they can't play, and they keep gaming despite promising to cut back. Over time it becomes the center of everything, crowding out the rest of life.
